Renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Usman Abdulla has died at the age of 80.
He died in Male’ City on early Monday morning.
Usman, who studied from the Islamic University of Medina in Saudi Arabia, had served in various posts at the Islamic Ministry.
Former Islamic Minister Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed named Usman as one of the people who made the most contribution to the ministry during his tenure.
He said that Usman had given quick responses to religious questions submitted to the Islamic Ministry through the hotline.
He described Usman as “humble, disciplined and honorable.”
Shaheem said that Usman had visited all inhabited islands of Maldives to spread the message of Islam to the people.
Usman had also made frequent appearances on TV and radio, providing information on various religious topics.
