President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s official election agent and parliamentary member of Kinbidhoo constituency, citing there were no disagreements within Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on the president’s running mate, said the decision was made in consideration of the current happening in the political arena.
MDP’s parliamentary group leader, North Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam was chosen as the president’s running mate. The candidacy form of the president was submitted to the Elections Commission (EC) on Sunday morning.
Nashiz said no disagreements regarding the running mate within the party have been noted, while stressing the decision was taken in consideration of the current happenings in the political arena.
“Aslam is highly experienced in the political arena, and was already representing Addu even when we first entered politics. As I believe, Aslam has the experience,” he said.
Nashiz added that the appointment of Aslam as a running mate boosted efforts to win the election.
Speaking further, Nashiz said great support for the president has been witnessed across all residential islands as they have acknowledged the development brought across the nation by the president in the past four years.
“There is no doubt majority will be received from 90 percent of the islands visited so far during the campaign,” he added.
Nashiz also denied allegations by opposition parties claiming state resources were being utilized for the president’s campaign activities.
He also said he believes all opponents have the opportunity to campaign, emphasizing the campaign of none of the candidates has been obstructed.
