Teacher embroiled in fake certificate scandal arrested from India

Abin C. Raj; an Indian teacher who worked in Kalaafanu School suspected of forging and selling fake certificates while based in the Maldives.

The teacher who was suspected of forging and selling fake certificates while based in the Maldives has been arrested from India upon his arrival in the nation.

Abin C. Raj worked as a teacher at Kalaafaanu School in Male’ City. The case came to light when Indian news outlets reported on an announcement by the Indian policy seeking him over forging and selling fake certificates through a blue notice.

Education Ministry, once the case came to their attention, said they would investigate and take action accordingly.

Indian news outlets reported on Tuesday that Raj was arrested from India upon hos return to the country following the cancellation of his visa and termination from employment.

As per Indian news outlets, Raj runs an education consultancy agency in India, and has previously worked as a career guidance and life coach.

While he is suspected of forging and selling a large number of fake certificates – the latest such case to come to light was a fake certificate forged and sold to Nikil Thomas for RS. 200,000 (MVR 37,000) which Thomas had submitted to MSM College, Kayamkulam, to secure MCom admission.

Thomas confessed to police that Raj had provided him with the certificate.

Thomas and Raj worked together at the Student Federation of India (SFI).
