Local man arrested for mugging on a stolen motorbike

A local man has been arrested for mugging a woman on the road.

Police, in a message to the media on Friday, said a Maldivian man was arrested under a court order for snatching the wallet and the mobile phone of a woman on a motorbike at Lonuziyaarai Magu on Wednesday morning.

They identified the suspect as Ismail Saaif, Habibihap, R. Alifushi.

Police detailed that the suspect mugged the woman on the motorbike, adding their investigations have uncovered that the said motorbike was a stolen one.

The wallet and the mobile phone have been recovered while the motorbike has been brought into Police custody.

The case is under investigation by the Police.

Theft and robbery cases have recently seen a significant increase in recent months.

In this regard, a 33-year-old Maldivian man was arrested this week for stealing wristwatches and a mobile phone – marking his 100th arrest for a crime.
