The demolition of Ghaazee Building, an old and worn-out government office complex, has begun.
The land plot will be developed as a parking zone following the demolition of the building.
State Minister for Planning Akram Kamaluddin told Sun earlier that the government made the decision to demolish the building because it was no longer safe.
The building housed the Auditor General’s Office and the Maldives Correctional Service which have now been relocated to alternate buildings.
Akram said the land plot will be developed as a parking zone at the earliest.
Lack of parking is a pressing issue in the congested Male’ City. Another old government office complex, Huravee Building was demolished last year and replaced with a parking area.
A new government office complex was inaugurated earlier this year in Hulhumale’; Umar Zahir building.
