No arrests despite the identification of MP Zareer’s attackers

Sun has learned that police has identified the group of people who attacked Mathiveri MP Hassan Zareer earlier this week.

Zareer had been at the Habibi Café’ and Bistro in Galolhu district of Male’ City when he was attacked by a group of five men.

The incident took place at around 03:30 am Monday.

Police said the suspects used a “dangerous weapon” in the attack.

Zareer sustained head injuries in the attack and was taken to the ADK Hospital.

His family reports he was discharged on Thursday afternoon following three days of hospitalization for treatment. Police, on Thursday night, said no arrests have been made in the case as of present.

A close acquaintance of Zareer, however, told Sun that police have identified the attackers; an information they have disclosed to the parliamentarian as well.

While parliamentarians are granted special allowances and benefits – Article 6 of the Parliamentary Privileges Act mandates state’s security forces to provide security and protection for them.
