Distribution of Uchu-gifted watermelons to begin Thursday

The city council has announced it will begin distribution of watermelon donated to residents of Male’ City by Maldivian business magnate Mohamed ‘Uchu’ Moosa on Thursday.

The council said it has received 12 tons out of 15 tons of watermelon pledged by Uchu’s Champa Brothers, and will receive the rest soon.

Those who wish to collect watermelons must produce their national ID card. The council will issue two watermelons per ID card.

The distribution of watermelons will be carried out from the city council’s general services department from 09:30 am to 03:00 pm and 09:30 pm to 12:00 am Thursday, and from 08:30 am to 12:00 pm and 01:00 pm to 05:00 pm starting Saturday.

The council will also distribute a new shipment of 15,000 coconuts donated by Champa Brothers along with the watermelons, adding to 35,000 coconuts which have been distributed among Male’ residents.
