Parents protest shortage of teachers in Madifushi

Parents in Th. Madifushi staged a demonstration outside the local school on Wednesday, protesting the shortage in school teachers.

One of the parents told Sun they were forced to stage the protest due to the loss of the educational rights of their children.

She said the school did not have enough teachers for the lower grades, and that the issue had been repeatedly raised with the Education Ministry.

“It has been two years. There’s still a shortage in teachers. How are we to just overlook this?” asked the parent.

The parent said that while the school may be equipped with the latest facilities, the school is at the bottom when it comes to education.

‘There are foreign teachers coming to teach Quran. Is this justice?” she asked.

The parent said the school also lacks a fisheries science teacher.

Parents refused to send fisheries students to school Wednesday, and staged a protest outside the school’s gates at the end of school time.
