Naeema’s murder: Police take DNA samples of Manadhoo's residents

Police have begun taking fingerprints and DNA samples of some of the residents of N. Manadhoo, a week after a middle-aged woman was found killed in her home in the island.

Naeema Moosa, 62, Annaarumaage, N. Manadhoo, was found stabbed to death in her bedroom at around 06:30 pm April 7.

Police have yet to make an arrest in the case.

A source from Manadhoo told Sun that the police have begun taking fingerprints and DNA samples of people who visited Naeema’s home. Officers are also going door-to-door seeking information regarding the murder.

“They are asking if I knew Naeema and whether I have any information regarding her death. They left when I said I do not. There were three police officers. They are visiting almost all homes,” he said.

A street sweeper employed by the local council, Naeema had lived alone. She was report missing by her family at around 06:13 pm on April 7. She was last seen on April 5.

The police had to break open her bedroom door, and found her lying dead on the floor.

The police remain tightlipped regarding the details of Naeema’s death, but confirmed last week it is being investigated as a homicide.
