Vilimale’ buggy service launches next week; free throughout Ramadan and Eid

The Male’ City Council will begin providing buggy service in Vilimale’ next week, states Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Muizzu told Sun on Tuesday that the service will be free throughout the upcoming Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

“The rides will be free for passengers who travel the bus routes. Charges will apply for private hire,” he said.

Muizzu said that the council will announce the date when it will begin charging for the buggy service later.

Muizzu said the buggy service will be provided to the full satisfaction of citizens, with a cargo buggy and ambulance buggy as requested by the people.

“The ambulance buggy is free. The service will be available throughout the week,” he said.

The fare for rides along the route is MVR 2. The fare is different for private hire.

PRIVATE HIRE:

  • Four-seat buggy: MVR 6
  • Six-seat buggy: MVR 10
  • 12-seat buggy: MVR 15

The buggy is free for children under the age of two years, adults above the age of 65 years, students in school uniform, and people with disabilities registered with the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).
