The details of the land leased in Male’ city will be announced within the next two months, Mayor Adam Azim said on Tuesday evening.

The Mayor gave the assurance to the people at the Male City Council meeting that was held on Tuesday evening.

The Mayor said that one of the most important tasks assigned to the city by law is to provide residential services and a safe and happy environment for the people of the city.

Therefore, the Mayor noted that there is still a lot of work to be done by the City Council.

Azim stated that the council has not conducted a land audit or maintained a register for it in the 15 years since its inception. The mayor assured that this undertaking is now in progress.

“Within the next two months, I will provide you with all the details of all the land leased in the city, to whom, for what purpose, for what rent, for how long, whether there is a CSR component and all this, and if there is anything else, I will disclose all the details about the lands to all the beloved people of the city”.

The mayor announced that the previous practice for the council's decision to renew a land lease upon expiration has been altered.

The Mayor observed that the prevailing practice was to negotiate an extension upon or nearing the expiration of a contract. However, the council has now opted to proceed with the most advantageous proposal by publicly announcing the expiration of each contract. The Mayor believes this approach serves the best interests of both the council and the citizenry.

North Galolhu constituency Councilor Mohamed Saif Fathih had earlier asked the Mayor to share the details of the land owned by the council. Saif expressed his dissatisfaction that the information was not given despite repeated requests.

Saif had accused the mayor of allocating land in the city at cheap prices for long periods of time.

The mayor guaranteed the populace that all future contracts would be subject to prior review by both the council and the public.
