A man accused of threatening and blackmailing a woman into having sex with him received an acquittal on Sunday, despite the nude pictures of the woman found on his phone.

The man, from an island in GDh. Atoll, was charged with sexual coercion.

The incident in question took place back in 2016.

The man had admitted to investigators that he had the woman’s nude pictures on his phone. However, he denied the charge of sexual coercion.

The Criminal Court issued its sentence in the eight-year-old case last Sunday.

The court acquitted the man, citing lack of witnesses and failure of the prosecution to prove the charge beyond reasonable doubt.
