Water-filled bag thrown from Hiyaa tower injures pregnant woman

A plastic bag filled with water was thrown from an apartment in the H15 Tower of the Hiyaa Housing Project in Hulhumale’ on Thursday, injuring a pregnant woman.

The incident took place while the inauguration of the General Practice Clinic opened by the Hulhumale’ Hospital in H16, the tower next door, had been in progress. The function had been attended by Vice President Faisal Naseem and other senior state officials.

The pregnant woman injured in the incident is an employee of Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

HDC issued a statement condemning the act.

Such actions that are unbefitting of the community committed by a few to push political agendas is of deep concern to this corporation, said HDC.

HDC warned it will not hesitate to take the action necessary in response to the incident.

An eye witness told Sun that many of the people there clearly saw which apartment the bag was thrown from. The witness said that the person who threw the bag hadn’t been secretive about it.

It is common for objects to be thrown or to fall from the Hiyaa towers. However, it marks the first known incident where an object was deliberately thrown towards people.
