Male’ City Council on Tuesday stated that they were working towards resuming municipal services as per usual by 1800 hrs.
In the fire incident at the Neelan Fihaara on Monday, the blaze spread, leading to the destruction of the adjacent accommodation block where Male’ City Council staff reside.
This caused over 200 staff to be displaced. Most of these employees work in the municipal and other services under the city council.
A Media official from the council Malsha Shareef noted that the incident greatly affected employees, so more time was given a break for them.
“Yesterday’s incident was a great loss to employees, and they are very exhausted from it. So, to give them more time to rest, the mayor decided work will begin later today.”
The City Council also noted that important items and documentation such as passports and personal belongings of some were burnt in the fire.
In addition to this, Mayor Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that it would take about a month to arrange permanent accommodation for the displaced employees. He added that the staff will reside at Farukolhufushi until then.
