Reacting too much and too soon isn’t a good thing, and it is one such hasty reaction that led to the fall of an administration, said Thulhaadhoo MP Hisaan Hussain, criticizing Parliament speaker and former president, Mohamed Nasheed.

Hisaan’s remark hits back at Nasheed and his supporters, who have accused President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of failure to ‘react’.

In a campaign event for President Solih in N. Velidhoo on Saturday night, Hisaan said hasty reactions by presidents aren’t a good thing.

This sometimes leads to fall of governments, she said, referring to the fall of Nasheed’s administration in 2012, after just three years in office.

“In my experience, hasty reactions aren’t that great. The results of hasty reactions aren’t that great,” she said.

“When you react too much, too soon, you sometimes have to appoint three vice presidents during a presidential term. And other times, your administration may fall. And sometimes, you are unable to sustain your administration unless by declaring a state of emergency,” she said.

Hisaan said she will never forget the fall of the first MDP administration.

Hisaan said she chose to support President Solih for MDP’s presidential ticket because he has proven himself to be someone who works well with people of different views.

She said she does not want to see MDP lose power and everyone get put back in jail.

MDP can only retain power by choosing someone who works well with multiple political parties, she said.

MDP is set to hold its presidential primary on January 28.
