President: Male’ residents will be issued 5,000 plots mid-2023

Total 5,000 residents of Male’ will be issued land in the middle of the current year, states President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

He made the promise during a campaign event in N. Velidhoo on Saturday night.

Speaking at the event, President Solih noted that housing has been his biggest electoral pledge in 2018, and that it was going ahead at full swing.

He said that there were housing projects in progress across Maldives to provide housing to over 16,000 families, including flats, rowhouses, and land.

“Practical works on issuing 8,782 flats and 5,000 plots of land from Male’ area along is, In Sha Allah, in progress. By mid-year, we will draw the perimeter of 5,000 plots of land and award it to residents of Male’ as promised,” he said.

President Solih announced plans to issue land to Male’ residents on February 3, 2022, while delivering his annual address to the Parliament. He said that Male’ residents would be issued at least 1,000 plots from Hulhumale’, at least 2,000 from Gulhifalhu, and at least 2,000 from Giraavaru.

MDP is set to hold its presidential primary on January 28. It will see President Solih compete against MDP’s leader, Parliament speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

57,255 MDP members are eligible to vote in the election.
