A dead body has been found off the Vemparu lagoon in V. Atoll.
According to police, authorities received report of the sighting of the dead body at approximately 09:03 am Monday.
The body was found in the waters to the north west of the Vemparu lagoon, said a police spokesperson.
The body has been recovered from the sea, and is being transported on a police speedboat.
“The police are looking into this,” said the spokesperson.
The police have yet to disclose any details, including the sex and nationality.
The body was reportedly found in a severely decomposed state.
Several people were reported missing in diving and various other marine accidents last year. The bodies of some of them were never found.
The police are also looking for two people report missing after departing from Vilimale’ on a fuel barge on December 28. The barge was found adrift off Hulhule’ the next day, but the people onboard remain missing.
