Dead body found floating in waters off Dhoonidhoo

A dead body has been found floating in the waters of K. Atoll

A police spokesperson said the body was reported to the police at around 09:10 am on Thursday.

According to the spokesperson, it was spotted in the waters off Dhoonidhoo – which houses a custodial jail.

The Maldives National Defense (MNDF) identified the deceased as a person reported missing from Male’ City at around 07:54 pm on Wednesday.

According to the MNDF, the person was believed to have jumped into the waters from near the Rasfannu Artificial Beach.

The MNDF said that the Male’ Area Coast Guard Second Squadron had been engaged in a search operation to rescue him since then.

Coast Guard divers searched a 41,590 square meter area off Rasfannu.

The body was spotted by the crew of an MTCC ferry traveling the area.

It was transported to Male’ City with the assistance of the Coast Guard.

Authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the deceased.
