Tourism Ministry and L. Isdhoo Council signed an agreement on Thursday, under which the ministry pledged provide technical support to develop the tourism industry in the island.
Under the agreement, the ministry will provide technical support to the council in issuing land for tourism, in determining the best locations to build guesthouses, in planning and designing guesthouses, and in allocating land and obtaining the necessary construction permits for guesthouses.
The agreement was signed by State Minister for Tourism Ahmed Salih and Isdhoo Council’s President Ibrahim Khaleel in a ceremony at the Tourism Ministry headquarters Thursday afternoon.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Salih said the agreement opens the door to introduce tourism to Isdhoo.
He said that it is the Tourism Ministry’s second agreement with an island to provide tourism-related technical support.
But the ministry will provide technical support to islands, with or without agreements, he said.
“The door that opened today to get what the council wants done, this is huge progress,” he said.
Khaleel noted that Isdhoo is rich in land, and home to a number of historical landmarks – making it an ideal island for tourism.
“The opportunity we received today, the Tourism Ministry is holding our hand to provide us with the support we need to conduct tourism in Isdhoo,” he said.
Khaleel said the council has high hopes tourism will be a success in Isdhoo.
It will increase the prosperity of the people of our island, he said.
