Abdulla’s family expresses concern over delay in autopsy results

The family of the GDh. Hoadedhoo man who died in police custody in late October has expressed concern over the delay in autopsy results.

Abdulla Rasheed, 43, was arrested in a counter-drug operation from a café near the harbor of GDh. Hoadedhdhoo at approximately 02:15 pm on October 25. The police hired a private speedboat to transport him to another island. He died en route.

According to the family, Abdulla had repeatedly complained of chest pains when the police had him board the boat, and the officers there dismissed it as an act and denied him medical treatment.

His body was transported to India for an autopsy to determine the cause of death on October 31, despite protests from his family, who wished to have him buried as soon as possible. They made an unsuccessful attempt to halt the autopsy by filing a case with the Civil Court.

His body was flown back home and buried on November 5.

Abdulla’s family has expressed concern over the delay in results of the autopsy.

His uncle, Ahmed Shareef told Sun the family found many of the aspects surrounding his death suspicious.

He urged the police to share the results of the autopsy, whatever it may be.

“We are okay with whatever the results show. Everyone is waiting for the results. A lot of people are waiting. But they have yet to even mention the report,” he said.

Ahmed said they have yet to receive the preliminary report, and the police told the family the final report could take three months.

He asked for the police to share the results of the autopsy without making any changes, and to conduct a full investigation into Abdulla’s death.
