Council to India to seek expertise for ‘Smart Hoadedhdhoo’ project

GA. Hoadedhdhoo Council has departed on a trip to India seeking expertise for the ‘Smart Hoadedhdhoo’ project aimed at digitalizing the island.

Hoadhedhoo Council is a part of a delegation headed by the Local Government Ministry.

The delegation departed for India on the visit spanning from Monday to November 15th to partake in the ‘Smart City Mission’ training program on an invitation received to the Ministry.

The training program is being held in India’s northern state, Uttarakhand’s Mussoorie.

According to Hoadedhdhoo Council, the ‘Smart Hoadedhdhoo’ project is a digitalization program spanning 10 years.

The Council detailed that the delegation will be visiting key cities in Indian as part of the program to gain hands-on experience for the project, including smart cities in Dehradun and Chandigarh. The delegation will also be visiting New Delhi’s Municipal Council and World Trade Centre (WTC) tower.

Hoadedhdhoo Council also revealed to launch ‘Vaaruge’, an online portal designed to offer all Council services digitally — including payment processing and complaint submissions — this December, as part of the ‘Smart Hoadedhdhoo’ initiative.

The Council further stated that the existing streetlights in Hoadedhdhoo will be replaced with solar-powered lights under the ‘Smart Hoadedhdhoo’ initiative. Additionally, CCTV cameras will be installed in key locations across the island to enhance security and monitoring.

The Council noted that it had held a meeting with the High Commission of India in the Maldives regarding the ‘Smart Hoadedhdhoo’ project on November 14th. As per the Council, discussions during the meeting focused on ways the High Commission can provide technical and practical assistance in the implementation of the project.

 

The Council added that, following discussions, the High Commission had agreed to arrange visits to experience smart cities during this trip as part of the first phase of the ‘Smart Hoadedhdhoo’ project, and to hold further discussions to secure funding for the implementation of the project’s second phase.
