MTCC awarded MVR 59M project to develop roads in Ukulhas

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded a MVR 59 million project to develop the roads of AA. Ukulhas with asphalt.

The contract was signed by Planning Ministry’s Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq and MTCC’s CEO Adam Azim in a ceremony at the Planning Ministry headquarters in Male’ City on Wednesday.

The project involves developing 2.68 kilometers of roads with asphalt, and installing a storm drainage system and streetlights.

MTCC is required to complete the project in 450 days.

The poor state of the roads of Ukulhas is of great concern to the people of the island. Ukulhas councilor Mohamed Husnee told Sun the roads are prone to flooding during heavy rain.

He said the state of the roads is disrupting waste management and vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

“People are getting injured due to the poor state of the roads. They might slip and fall when its raining. And given the island sees a lot of tourist visitors, they are also facing difficulties due to the state of the roads,” he said.

Husnee said he hopes the practical work on the project will begin soon.

The project offers a solution to a longtime issue, he said.

Husnee said he was pleased the project was awarded to MTCC, as it has increased his confidence the project will be completed in a timely manner.

MTCC is conducting multiple infrastructure development projects across Maldives.
