Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali, on Wednesday, advised teachers to set examples for students by good conduct, with respect to virtues they want to instill in students.
In a statement on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Minister Aishath Ali said that one main reason behind the success of people, is the teachers they meet.
She described the teaching profession as a noble work, which would extend to generations.
Addressing teachers, the Minister stressed the importance of adopting new teaching methods to build students that are well accustomed to a rapidly developing world.
“Although a chalkboard was sufficient previously, students of present require skills, technology and creativity. Though lessons could be taught within the four walls of a classroom previously, students currently live in a technologically savvy society,” she had said.

She added that teachers now had to compete with screens displaying different colors to attract the attention of students.
Minister Aishath Ali said efforts by teachers to cater lessons outside the four walls of classrooms, to inside of students’ homes, during the COVID-19 pandemic when the threat of halting education was imminent, was an exceptional example of this.
She said that this year’s Teachers’ Day theme by UNESCO was a nod in recognition of the hard work and sacrifices of teachers during the pandemic.
The theme of this year’s Teachers’ Day is ‘The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers’.
Furthermore, the Minister said that the aim is to always ensure that teachers are capable and skilled people able to trigger thoughts regarding lessons taught, improve the quality of lessons year by year, and able to contribute to formulating policies with respect to students.
She added that teachers are the ones who implement every meaningful change in the education sector, therewith making them the true controllers of the direction where the country is headed.
With such a big responsibility on their shoulders – Minister Aishath Ali said that were important considerations teachers must take into account.
In this regard, she detailed that students not only learn from the lessons their teachers teach, but rather also take examples from the teacher’s conduct, relationships with schools, students and society.
She stressed that teachers meeting students at the most influential age in their lives are the ones who shape their behavior and relationships.
Henceforth, she advised teachers to set examples for students by good conduct, with respect to virtues they want to instill in students such as respect and love for the religion and the nation, caring and respect for each other and economizing.
International Teachers’ Day is annually celebrated on every October 5. Schools across the Maldives are holding special events and ceremonies to mark the occasion.
