Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, citing the current administration made greater efforts than any previous administrations to repair damaged school buildings, states renovations of 30 school buildings will be completed by next year, restoring them to usable conditions.
In an interview with state media PSM, Minister Shafeeu said the current administration spent MVR 30 million on school building renovations in its first year, followed by MVR 70 million so far this year for the same purpose.
He added that the Ministry has already approved an expenditure of MVR 20 million for the renovation of school buildings before the commencement of the next academic year, following the long holidays. He also noted that MVR 55 million has been allocated for school renovation projects on a contractor financing basis.
“With the statistics available, [I] can confidently say that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration has made greater efforts than the past three administrations to repair damaged school buildings,” he said.
The Minister added that state renovations of 30 school buildings will be completed by next year, and subsequently brought into use.
Speaking further, Minister Shafeeu revealed plans to complete at least four schools in Hulhumale’ next year, adding the locations where these schools will be developed have been decided, with their renderings also complete.
In addition to this, Shafeeu said Shaheed Ali School developed in Hulhumale’ Phase II, which has a capacity of 1,800 students, will be brought into operation next year.
