A mental health centre to open at Hulhumale’ Hospital next month

Hulhumale’ Hospital, on Sunday, has announced that a mental health centre will open at the hospital next month.

The hospital’s Front Office and Public Relations Manager Abdulla Mauroof told Sun that the goal is inaugurate and commence services at the centre on September 10.

Underscoring that the hospital presently operates different departments offering different health services – Mauroof said that a specialized centre to treat mental illnesses was being established to provide easements for patients seeking treatment.

“The population of Hulhumale’ continues to grow. Therewith, to provide the services required by the people in the easiest manner at the Hulhumale’ Hospital,” he had said.

Mauroof said that psychiatric services commenced at Hulhumale’ Hospital with one Psychiatrist approximately two months ago.

He detailed that although many individuals name note to seek psychiatric treatment – the main obstruction in the provision of services was the fact that the hospital only has one psychiatrist.

Mauroof said that the mental health centre which will open next month will address these issues – as the centre will be inaugurated with additional psychiatrists and psychologists.

Vice President Faisal Naseem inspected the progress of the mental health centre being developed at Hulhumale’ Hospital on Sunday.

At present, only Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has a separate centre to provide psychiatric services. However, large number of people name noting to seek treatment leads has led to long waiting lists, sometimes taking months before a consultation with a doctor is fixed.
