A community library has been established in GDh. Fiyoaree under the Bank of Maldives (BML)’s Community Fund initiative.
The project was carried out by local NGO, Fiyoaree Association for Community Empowerment (FACE), with the aim of motivating the island’s residents to engage in reading and spending quality time outdoors with family.
The community library was established as part of the children’s park in Fiyoaree.
FACE’s Vice President Suruhan Mohamed noted the lack of outdoor space dedicated for families in Fiyoaree.
“We have not had an outdoor space dedicated for families on the island. Our hope is that this space will not only be useful but will make a real difference to our community. Children coming to the park can now read outside and spend quality time with their families,” he said.
The BML Community Fund is an initiative aimed at empowering individuals and NGOs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects. Every quarter, five winning projects are selected to receive MVR 50,000 to make a difference in the community.
