Police seize 71 alcohol bottles on Eid Day

Police have confiscated alcohol bottles in counter-narcotics operations run in three islands.

In a counter-narcotics operation in K. Hinmafushi in connection to the Eid holidays on Saturday night, the police found 71 alcohol bottles hidden among trees near a local café.

Police have yet to make any arrests in connection to the case.

And in a counter-narcotics operation in GA. Vilingili in connection to the Eid holidays on Friday night, the police found six beer cans in an abandoned house in the reclaimed area of the island.

And in a counter-narcotics operation in K. Maafushi on Thursday night, police found 58 rubber packets containing drugs and a juice petty packet containing drugs during a search of a private residence.

The search was conducted under court order following intelligence police received regarding a drug trafficking operation in Maafushi.

Police arrested a 33-year-old Maldivian man in connection to the case.

He was remanded in custody of police for 15 days when presented before the Maafushi Magistrate Court for his remand hearing.

All three cases are under investigation by the police.
