Drugs seized from Faena’s husband meet trafficking requirements

The alleged drugs seized from Ahmed Azhadh, the husband of Senior State Councilor Faena Fayyaz, who was arrested last month, meet trafficking requirements.

Faena and her husband, Azhadh, was arrested during a police raid on their apartment in Hulhumale’ back in October. While Faena was released the next day during a remand hearing, her husband has remained in custody to date.

Azhadh’s remand has been extended on multiple occasions, with the latest extension by 16 days. The latest remand order, citing the investigation officer, states seven grams of cannabis, nine grams of diamorphine, and 19 grams of 2-methylmethcathinone were seized from the couple’s apartment, in addition to the types of tools utilized by drug sellers. It was emphasized that the weight of drugs seized met the requirements for trafficking.

According to reports, the couple was arrested in a police raid on an apartment in ‘RainCrest Residence’, an apartment complex in Hulhumale’, where they supposedly resided. The remand order which denied extending Faena’s custody said she was released because he husband assumed responsibility for the drugs discovered at the apartment at the scene itself.

Faena, who has worked at the Attorney General’s Office for 12 years, heads the office’s Human Rights and International Affairs Division.

She was appointed the head of Civil Rights Office, an office established under an electoral pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on November 26, 2023.
