MRM calls for resignation of those in explicit videos

Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) called for the resignation of those filling various government positions, who were allegedly in the explicit videos circulating on social media.

In a statement released by the party regarding this issue, concern was expressed over the increase in improper sexual conduct and the spread of such images and videos on social media.

The party called on authorities to prioritize investigation of these issues and take legal action without impartiality towards any individual.

Moreover, the statement urged the institutions to take action against those members who are allegedly seen in them.  

“At a time when many want to see the government reformed, this party call on those who fulfilling various positions of the state to resign from those posts.”

It also noted that removing those in the videos was crucial for earning back the trust people used to have toward the government bodies, institutions, the political system and political parties.

“Should any member of MRM be involved in such activities, we assure party members and the Maldivian people that a prioritized investigation will be conducted, and any action needed will be taken in order to maintain the principles and the trust people have toward the party.”

Videos and photos of well-known individuals engaging in sex were leaked on social media over the weekend, including  Ahmed Nazim Abdul Sattar, a prominent lawyer and the younger brother of Parliament speaker Mohamed Nasheed, South Henveiru MP Hussain Shaheem (Andhun Hussain) and Hoarafushi MP Ahmed Saleem.

Moreover, a picture of former Parliamentarian of Nolhivarum constituency Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel Nasheed) has been circulating of him in the room seen in the same room as the one seen in the recent videos surfacing of sex between men.

Police have stated they are investigating a blackmail case, involving multiple victims.
