Ahmed Nazim Abdul Sattar, a renowned lawyer and younger brother of Parliament Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed, was summoned by the police on Friday evening as the authority probes a leaked video that allegedly shows Nazim engaging in sexual acts with another man.
Sun has learned that Nazim was summoned to the police quarters at approximately 5:00pm this evening – whereas he exited the building at approximately 6:40pm in the evening.
Maldives Police Service said that Nazim was summoned today in connection to an investigation currently underway against him.
In an earlier statement today, a Police Spokesperson confirmed to Sun that they have begun investigating the alleged video of Nazim.
The video leaked on social media shows two men engaging in sexual relations. Many allege that one of the men in the video is Nazim.
Nevertheless, he denies the allegations.
“We will take additional actions necessary in the course of the investigation of this case,” the Spokesperson added.
Speaking further, the Spokesperson detailed that they are investigating a blackmail case involving Nazim Sattar that had been filed with the authority by several people.
However, no other details regarding both cases were disclosed by the Police.
In a statement released regarding the matter, PPM-PNC coalition called on the investigation of the cases involving Nazim Sattar and taking the necessary actions. They also urged to freeze his passport in case he might flee abroad.
The statement also stresses the government’s negligence in investigating similar cases previously.
