Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary group decided on Monday to file a no-confidence motion against Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem with the Parliament.
MDP’s parliamentary group had convened for a meeting to take the vote at approximately 12:30 pm.
The motion to dismiss Shameem passed with a vote of 21-17.
The no-confidence motion against Shameem had been submitted to the MDP’s parliamentary group on June 1.
MDP has yet to disclose the identity of the parliamentarian who presented the no-confidence motion, or the reason for the decision.
