A no-confidence motion against Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has been submitted to the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s parliamentary group.

MDP’s parliamentary group had convened on Wednesday to make a decision regarding the dismissal of High Court judge Abdulla Hameed.

MDP’s parliamentary group leader, North Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam told Sun that a parliamentarian submitted a no-confidence motion against Shameem at the meeting.

He declined to disclose the identity of the parliamentarian who submitted the motion and would not comment on the reason for the move to dismiss Shameem.

Aslam said the parliamentary group did not call the motion to vote on Wednesday, and decided to hold a separate meeting to take a decision.

“Based on the nature of the issue, we decided it was a serious matter that needed to be presented and scheduled separately,” he said.
