As previously announced by Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), waste will need to be segregated when it is put out for collection, starting Wednesday.

WAMCO states it made the decision to mandate segregation of waste in order to solve challenges in safe management of waste.

Waste in the greater Male’ area must be segregated into three categories; organic waste, plastic bottles, and other types of waste.

Meanwhile, waste in residential islands outside the greater Male’ area, and in resorts and industrial islands must be segregated into four categories; organic waste, plastic bottles, metals and glass items, and other types of waste.

WAMCO has instructed for the different categories of waste to be packed in separate bags.

Customers who require disposal of heavier and bulkier waste have been asked to request WAMCO’s Call and Pick Up Service (CAPS).

Registered customers can also hire pickups and dispose of such types of waste at WAMCO’s site.

Customers who wish to book CAPS or need additional information can call WAMCO’s hotline 1666 during open hours.
