Maldives Police Service has requested the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) to charge the suspect arrested in connection to the stabbing of a muezzin in Th. Dhiyamigili in March.
On Sunday, Police gave confirmation to Sun that they had forwarded the case to PG Office, seeking charges, following the conclusion of their investigation.
However, no further details regarding the case were disclosed by the Police.
The muezzin was stabbed at approximately 09:35am on March 13, in Thinkolhufushi area of Dhiyamigili.
He, a 55-year-old man, sustained 13 stab wounds in the attack, including four deep wounds to the back.
Police arrested 35-year-old Hassan Samidh, a close friend of the victim, in connection to the stabbing on the day of the attack.
He had been remanded in custody pending outcome of the trial by Madifushi Magistrate Court.
