Maldivian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that GoAir, a budget airline based in Mumbai, continues to operate flights between Maldives and India.

Several media outlets reported on Wednesday that the airline had halted its operations due to lack of space from Indian airports.

Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the airline cancelled scheduled flights to Maldives on Wednesday in order to schedule flights under normal protocol as the air travel bubble between Maldives and India due to the COVID-19 pandemic had expired.

Though the flights scheduled for Wednesday were cancelled, the airline will continue to conduct scheduled flights to Maldives, said the Foreign Ministry.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which managed the Velana International Airport, said GoAir planned on making changes to its routes. The company said that though the airline previously operated on the Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi routes, it will hereafter operate on the Kochi and Kannanur routes.

Four Indian airlines, including GoAir, operate to Maldives. They are Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet.
