PPM’s leader, former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom is scheduled to visit Lh. Kurendhoo to partake in celebratory events to be held to mark his party’s success in the by-election held to elect an individual for the vacant Kurendhoo Council President seat.

Kurendhoo Council President-elect Ismail Madheeh told Sun that Yameen is scheduled to arrive at the island at 4:00pm this evening, to take part in celebratory events.

“A gathering which Yameen will take part in will be held on this island tonight. He will be speaking during this gathering,” he added.

Madheeh also expressed joy over the opportunity to meet Yameen at such a point in time.

Yameen had traveled to Kurendhoo for Madheeh’s campaign as well. The seat of Kurendhoo Council President became vacant following the resignation of former president Ibrahim Shimaau. He was elected to the post on Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) ticket.

The by-election held on last Saturday was secured by Madheeh with 614 votes. He competed with ruling party, MDP’s candidate Ali Naseem, who received 564 votes.

Apart from Madheeh, the remaining councilors at Kurendhoo Council are MDP members. Pointing out he has to work alongside people with different views, Madheeh said that he would give his full cooperation in fulfilling the pledges made by the government to Kurendhoo people.

“Will receive my full support to fulfill the government’s pledges. As I believe, having different views is not a problem. We can work together, even with different views,” he had said.
