42 kilo drug bust: Key suspect arrested identified as PNC council member

The key suspect arrested in connection to the 42 kilos of drugs that were discovered hidden under false flooring at a house in Male’ City’s Maafannu district has been identified as a council member of opposition People’s National Congress (PNC).

Via a tweet this morning, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said that the drugs were discovered and seized during a joint operation initiated by the Police’s Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence on Thursday.

He also disclosed the drugs seized during this operation as 42 kilos of heroin.

Via tweet tonight, CP Hameed said that the key suspect in connection to the case has been apprehended.

Sun has learned that the key suspect arrested in connection to the case is PNC’s council member Ahmed Hussain. He had contested for Alifushi seat in the last parliamentary elections on PNC’s ticket as well.

Apart from Ahmed Hussain, another individual has also been arrested in connection to the case.

The number of successful counter-narcotics operations carried out by Police has significantly increased recently. Just last week, stopped and search a pickup from Sosun Magu in Male’, and seized a large amount of drugs.

Earlier this month, Police seized 12.6 kilos of drugs and arrested three suspects in the operation, which was conducted in Male’, Hulhumale’ Phase I, Hulhumale’ Phase II, and at sea.
