As per ‘Maldives Health Statistics 2020’ publicized by the Health Ministry on February 27, out of the 2,785 individuals who have experienced cardiovascular diseases in that year, 1,757 individuals are men.

There are 1,672 cases of cardiovascular diseases reported from the Male’ area, whereas, 1,113 cases of cardiovascular diseases were reported from the atolls.

The statistics highlighted that cardiovascular diseases were the most common type of non-communicable disease in the Maldives.

Delving into the age group of people experiencing cardiovascular diseases in the Maldives, highest number of cases have been reported from men between the ages of 54 and 72. The second highest number of cases have been reported from men between the ages of 26 and 53.

The third highest number of cases have been reported from people above the age of 72. The fourth highest number of cases have been reported from women between the ages of 54 and 72.

Health Ministry’s statistics highlight that 19 girls and 29 boys below the age of 17 had consulted doctors over cardiovascular diseases in 2020.
