Japan grants MVR 1.2 million to Mukurimagu School

The Japan Embassy in Maldives has handed over MVR 1.2 million in grant funding for the project to upgrade Mukurimagu School in L. Gan.  

During a special ceremony held at the Ministry of Education, the grant contract was signed Mukurimagu School Principal Abdulla Shareef and the Ambassador of Japan to Maldives Takeuchi Midori.

The aid was given under the “Grass-Roots Human Security Project (GGP)” for the construction of two classrooms in the school. The classrooms are to be used for LKG and UKG students.

Additionally, the embassy stated that in case of a natural disaster, the facility can be utilized as an evacuation shelter as well.

GGP scheme is part of Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives.

The scheme aims to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation and energy with a view to contributing to the sustainable development of the Maldives.
