MATI, British High Commission partner to offer scholarships in tourism field

Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) and the British High Commission in Male’ have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to offer scholarships for Maldivian students who wish to obtain their Master’s degree in travel and tourism.

The MoU for the Chevening/Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) Scholarships was signed by British High Commissioner Caron Röhsler and MATI’s Secretary-General Ahmed Nazeer at the Maagiri Hotel in Male’ City on Monday.

According to MATI, the Chevening Scholarships program is the British government’s global scholarship program, by which scholarships are awarded to individuals with strong academic backgrounds who can also demonstrate their leadership potential.

The Chevening/Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) Scholarships are for Maldivian students who wish to study for a one-year Master’s degree in a travel and tourism related program at any accredited university in the United Kingdom.

The partnership between MATI and the British High Commission is set to cover two scholarships over the course of two academic years; 2022/23 and 2023/24.

MATI said it intends to increase and enhance the program depending on the success of the inaugural initiative.
