Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has warned the public to be cautious fraudulent calls being made in the name of the corporation seeking money.

In a tweet on Tuesday evening, HDC said that the corporation will not made calls from mobile phone numbers regarding financial transactions.

HDC said that all their financial dealings are done through documents, and urged customers who receive suspicious calls to call HDC’s call center at 1516 to verify the authenticity of such calls.

Sun has received a recording of such a scam call, in which the scammer – pretending to be a representative of HDC - tells someone that they had received a housing unit from the Hiyaa Housing Project in Hulhumale’ Phase II. Th scammer says that the unit would be complete in October, and sends a “registration number” and asks for a fee to join a meeting regarding the units.

However, the person who received the call grew suspicious and ended the call.
