Applications open for electoral posts in Disability Council

Applications have been opened for electoral posts in the Disability Council.

Gender Ministry, on Wednesday, said that members would be elected for the Council in four areas. They are:

  • Representative from persons with disabilities
  • Representative from mental healthcare worker
  • Representative from parents or guardians of persons with disabilities
  • Representative from non-governmental organizations promoting the rights of persons with disabilities

To be eligible to apply for the post – member representing persons with disabilities must be an individual registered in the Registry of Persons with Disabilities.

In addition to this, the individual must advocate the rights of persons with disabilities and should not have a criminal record of physical or sexual assault against a person with a disability.

Member representing mental healthcare workers should have a first degree and three years of experience in the field. The individual must also be registered with Maldives Allied Health Council and should not have a criminal record pertaining to assault or negligence.

Member representing parents or guardians of persons with disabilities must be registered as a parent or a guardian of a person with a disability. Whilst the individual must be an advocate for persons with disability, he or she must not have a criminal record of assault or negligence against a person with a disability.

The deadline to submit the application for the posts is 2:00pm on January 20. The application form is available on Gender Ministry’s website.

The election is scheduled to be held on February 19.
