The Chinese government has decided to allow Maldivians to travel to the country without requiring prior visa.
Foreign Ministry said that Maldivians will be able to travel to China on on-arrival visa basis, once the pandemic restrictions are lifted.
The agreement pertaining to mutual visa exemption between the Chinese government and the Maldivian government was signed today, as part of China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s official trip to the Maldives.
As per the mutual visa exemption agreement signed today, Maldivian will be granted an on-arrival visa which will be valid for a period of 30-days upon their arrival in China.
Similarly, Chinese travelers arriving in Maldives will also be granted a 30-day on-arrival visa.
In the efforts by the current administration to ensure easements for Maldivians traveling abroad – this is the fifth country to allow Maldivians to travel without requiring prior visa.
Since November 2018, arrangements have been made for Maldivian travelers to get on-arrival visas from United Arab Emirates, Russia, Thailand and Morocco.
Moreover, following discussions initiated by the government, easements have been facilitated in acquiring visa for Maldivians from Saudi Arabia. India and Sri Lanka.
During China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s trip to the Maldives, a total of five agreements were signed between the two countries. They include agreements pertaining to the provision of MVR 968.3 million in grant aid, maintenance of Sinamale’ bridge, project for establishment of additional outlets for seawater desalination in five islands and services of an Ophthalmic Center.
