Notice of termination has been sent to 21 staff working at the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services.

An official from Gender Ministry confirmed to Sun that notice of termination has been served to 21 staff today – adding that those who have been served the notice are staffs employed at the Kudakudhinge Hiyaa in Vilimale’.

The official also detailed that the staffs were being terminated for the purpose of cutting down the employees at the Kudakudhinge Hiyaa, as some of the children living at the shelter have been relocated to the newly opened, Amaan Hiyaa.

Speaking further, the official said that notice of termination was served to staff at Kudakudhinge Hiyaa when it was vacated previously as well. In this regard, 71 staff were given notice back then, some of who were directed to other jobs within the Ministry. However, the official said that the 21 staff that were served the notice of termination this time around, was in accordance with a decision made by the Civil Service Commission.

There were multiple instances in the course of this year, during which order at Kudakudhinge Hiyaa, which is overseen by the Gender Ministry, was disrupted. Lots of issues pertained to misconduct by the children who are living at the shelter. There were also three incidents of fire as well.

Subsequently, Gender Ministry has been criticized for being negligent in its efforts to address such matters.
