Galolhu School installs cameras, suspends female caretakers

Galolhu School has installed CCTV cameras inside the premises and suspended all female caretakers in the wake of the sexual assault of a preschooler at the school. 

Galolhu School announced the measures in a notice sent to parents. 

The school told parents that all female caretakers had been suspended, and that students will be escorted to the toilet by teachers. 

Authorities confirmed the investigation into the sexual assault of a four-year-old girl in a school in Male’ City in mid-October. The assault took place inside the school’s toilet. 

The victim identified her assailant as a female caretaker at the school. 

However, the specific caretaker who committed the crime remains unclear. 

There weren't any CCTV cameras installed at the school when the crime took place. 

The school informed parents in the notice that cameras have now been installed in 18 locations inside the school. 

Police confirm they are investigating the case, but have yet to make an arrest.
