UNGA President Shahid to pay an official visit to Maldives

President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has decided to pay an official visit to the Maldives.

A senior government official confirmed to Sun that Shahid will be arriving in the Maldives on Wednesday.

Currently, Shahid is touring multiple countries in his capacity as the PGA. In this regard, he arrived in the UAE for an official visit yesterday.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih extended an invitation for Shahid to visit Maldives in his capacity as the PGA on September 21 – during a meeting held between the two on the sidelines of President Solih’s recent trip to the United States to take part in the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

Although Shahid had been sworn in as the PGA – he still remains as the Foreign Minister of Maldives. However, during his time away – operations of the Ministry is overseen by State Minister Ahmed Haleel.
