Avid College has terminated the agreement it signed with the Academy of Aeronautics (AAA) - which managed a flying school in Addu City.

Avid College’s chairman Abdulla Musthaq Rashad announced in a press conference that the agreement between Avid College and AAA has been terminated – effective this Saturday.

“Starting today, as of this moment, Avid College does not have any role in the management or transaction involving the flying school in Addu,” he said.

Avid College and AAA had signed an agreement transferring the ownership of the flying school on June 24.

Musthaq said that authorities have failed to arrange even a temporary building to run the school in, in the months that have gone by since.

Musthaq said Avid College has incurred MVR 4.7 million in losses due to the delay in reopening the flying school, and that no plans have been put in place as of yet to recompense for loss.

Avid College had also purchased a new aircraft for the school. The college did not disclose what they plan to do with the aircraft now that the agreement has been terminated.

Musthaq said he met with students to inform them of Avid College’s decision at 02:00 pm this Saturday.

“I ran from one direction to the other. In different directions. I called everyone I needed to. I talked to them. There isn’t anyone I didn’t meet,” he said.

Musthaq said Avid College did everything in their power to provide the students with their rights, but was forced to terminate the agreement after all efforts failed.
