Parliament’s Privileges and Ethics Committee has decided to recommend to the Parliament to arrange for parliamentarians to have designated parking space in front of their residence.
The recommendation was proposed by Makunudhoo MP Mohamed Raee during the committee meeting last Wednesday.
Raee said parliamentarians face a number of difficulties due to lack of parking space in front of their residences, and that it is also leading to illegal parking.
He said that having designated parking spaces will also reinforce the safety and security of parliamentarians.
“I propose that members of the People’s Majlis, the members who live in Male’ and Hulhumale’, those who have cars, or all members in general for as long as they remain members of the People’s Majlis are arranged parking slots by paying what is required to the state, by paying as the people want,” he said.
Raee said he hopes the recommendation will be passed by the parliament floor.
