Offices of some ministries to be relocated to Hulhumale'

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has stated that efforts are underway to relocate some government ministries to Hulhumale’ in order to create job opportunities sufficient for its population.

Speaking at a television program broadcasted by Raajje TV last night, HDC’s Managing Director Suhail Ahmed had stated that the vacant plots of land located in Hulhumale’ Phase 1 will be leased for commercial purposes in the future as per the Hulhumale’ master plan.

He also noted that a lot of government companies and institutions have been requesting HDC for space from Hulhumale’ in order to construct their office buildings.

“Hence, the government is also in the view to relocate about four to five ministries to Hulhumale’ Phase 1,” Suhail also added.

“The construction of an office building of Planning Ministry is also currently underway. We have also sold a plot of land to Bank of Maldives. Ooredoo is constructing their head office as well,” he detailed.

Suhail explained that the purpose of relocating offices of government institutions and major businesses at Hulhumale’ is in order to create job opportunities sufficient for its population and to increase the number of services available in the city.

At present, offices of all government ministries and major government institutions are located in Male’ City. However, branches of some government institutions and some major companies are located in Hulhumale’.
