Education Ministry states 96 percent of teachers who work in schools in the greater Male’ region have completed their vaccination against COVID-19.

In an appearance on PSM on Sunday night, Education Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Ahmed Ali described the high vaccination rate among teachers as a great achievement.

“This is a significantly high number compared to the total population of teachers in Maldives,” he said.

Ahmed Ali said authorities are facing difficulties in delivering and beginning the administration of vaccines in the atolls.

“Most of the teachers have received their first dose. I am unable to give an exact figure of vaccinations in the atolls at this time,” he said.

Amid a massive campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in Maldives by the end of this August, authorities have also announced plans to start vaccinating children between the age of 12 to 17 years.

Education Ministry has stated that unvaccinated individuals will not be allowed to enter schools starting September, recently announced plans to introduce a ‘green card’ for parents of school students who have been fully vaccinated.
